Splitnote Terms of Use

For the Android app Splitnote (split bills offline), package app.splitnote.split.bill.
Effective 25 October 2026. Published by Morocode LLC.

The short version. Splitnote is free, it runs entirely on your phone, and it comes with no promises that it will never fail. Keep your own backups of anything that matters, and use the app for yourself.

Agreeing to these terms

By installing or using Splitnote you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app; uninstalling it ends the agreement.

Your licence

Morocode LLC grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use Splitnote on devices you control, for your own purposes. You may not sell, rent or redistribute the app, and you may not decompile, reverse engineer or modify it except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted. The app, its name, its design and its code remain ours.

What it costs

This version of Splitnote is free. It contains no advertising and no purchases. If a future version ever offers paid features, the terms of that purchase will be shown to you before you buy anything, and Google Play will handle the payment and any refund.

The service we run

Where the app talks to a server we operate, that service is provided free and as-is. We may change it, move it or shut it down, and we will try to give notice in the app when we do. Your records stay on your phone either way: losing the service costs you the syncing, not the data. We are not liable for any loss caused by the service being unavailable, slow or discontinued.

Your data is your responsibility

Everything the app holds is stored on your phone. That means we cannot recover it for you. Losing or replacing the phone, uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage removes the data permanently. The app includes an export and backup feature; use it regularly if what you keep in the app matters to you.

The arithmetic is yours to check

Splitnote divides an expense into whole cents — or whole yen, or whole won — so the parts always add back up to the total, and it suggests the shortest set of payments that clears the group. It is a calculator for what you typed in: it cannot know what was actually agreed at the table, and a figure it shows is only as right as the amounts and the people entered for it.

Nothing in Splitnote moves money. It does not connect to a bank, it does not send payments, and marking a debt as settled only writes that down. Whether the money really changed hands is between you and the people you split with.

Sharing a group, and who can see it

Sharing a group puts its contents on our server so the other phones can read it, and gives it a join code. Anyone who has that code can join the group and see and change everything in it, in the same way that anyone with a shared link can open it. Show the code only to the people you mean to share with; if it gets out, the person who created the group can replace it with a new one and remove any device that joined.

We keep a shared group only while it is shared. Stopping sharing deletes it from the server, and a group nobody opens for a year is deleted automatically. Every phone keeps its own copy either way, so nothing you can see in the app depends on our server staying alive.

What people write in a shared group is theirs, not ours. Do not put anything in a group that you would not want the other people in it to read, and do not use the app to share anything unlawful.

Acceptable use

Use Splitnote lawfully. Do not use it to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights or privacy, or in any way that would harm another person.

No warranty

Splitnote is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, or that it will run correctly on every device. Android manufacturers restrict background work, notifications and alarms in ways we cannot control or fully work around.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Morocode LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profit, time or opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use Splitnote. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Privacy

How the app handles your information is set out in the Splitnote Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes and ending the agreement

We may update these terms when the app changes. The effective date at the top will change, and continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new version. You may stop using Splitnote at any time by uninstalling it. We may stop publishing or supporting the app at any time; an app already installed on your phone will keep working as it is.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, where Morocode LLC is registered, without regard to conflict of law rules. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.
